It was a few days ago and the children were all planning on what they wanted to wear on Halloween.  My older girls dug out their “dress up” bin, a collection of past Halloween attire and other miscellaneous odd pieces, from the back of their closet.  I was thrilled to see my three-year-old toddler, Sadie bounce up the stairs wearing a perfectly cute pink princess dress, complete with ruffles and lace.  She was beaming!  So, I guess that took care of her costume…WRONG!  She made another trip downstairs to the girls room, and again returned – but this time she also had a big Nemo fish head on…along with her princess dress.  I asked her if she wanted to be Nemo the fish, OR a princess…she insisted that she wanted to wear BOTH!!  OK fine.  So, we walked her to the bedroom to show daddy her costume….dum-dah-dad-dum…drumroll… “Here I give you…Princess Fish-head!”

Sadie as Princess Fish-head

Of course I will have full photos of all the kids up later tonight (or tomorrow).

OK so we’re back from trick or treating…Sadie actually decided against wearing her fish head and opted for a princess crown instead.  No problem!  She was cute as can be, either way.  My 7 year old boy, Jake, decided to be “Jason” – basically a hockey mask and machete, along with a flannel.  Funny thing about that is that he will not even watch a trailer about any of those movies…waaaayyy too scary!  But after seeing a picture, and the costume – it was scary enough for him!  Kayla, my 10 year old was a princess with bright pink hair…she almost looked like the girl from LazyTown after she did her hair.  My 13 year old made her own costume with her bff…striped tights, ruffle skirts with glow sticks attached, and crazy shirts and hair.  They didn’t really know what they were technically, but had a lot of fun dressing up and looked great too!
So when it was almost time to go, daddy said, “man, I hate having to run up and down the stairs answering the door all night while you guys are gone…”  So, I told him he could take the kids out this year and I will stay home with with the baby and answer the door.   When the kids heard, they were like, “noooo….we wanted you to dress up and wear that daisy duck costum you have…”
My husband was so reluctant to be stuck home again answering the door that he volunteered, “I will wear daisy duck!”   Now  understand that daisy duck has a huge bead filled rump that hangs around, basically forcing a waddle upon the wearer….and it’s daisy duck…so the thought of my husband wearing that – way too hilarious.
In the end, when it was time to go, Jake (my fun hubby), got creative and wore an old suit that was my beloved boppa’s….he paired it with a crazy tie made by his daughter Kayla in kindergarten, and a little plastic “funny face”…he was good to go!  And it probably worked out much better for him this way, and for our relationships with fellow neighbors!
So, the kids had a great time, have waaaayyy too much candy, and other than the scare with the guy who jumped out of the drain hole in the ground, practically making Jakey jump out of his shoes, it was a great night for everyone.
