Easy to please…maybe

Riding in the car on the way home from the store, where by the way, my 3-year-old daughter completely misbehaved (imagine that!)…on the car ride, she keeps asking me to “play the game!” She is referring to “I spy” which we play in the car together every time we go somewhere (daily). So, she starts with her usual ritual, “c’mon mom, let’s play!” upon entry to the car. I said, “no, I don’t really want to play this time…and you weren’t very nice at the store. I think you need to say you’re sorry…” Not hearing my “no”, (she has very selective hearing at this point and seems to have opted out of hearing me say no), her simple request quickly turned to demands as she yelled, “JUST PLAY WITH ME MOM!”
THAT prompted me to say (considering t’is will be the season soon), “You DO know about Santa don’t you?!” (which brings me back to last week’s conversation when my older daughter asked what would ever prompt so many moms to carry on such a shinanigan for so many years with their children…ahhh, yes, now I remember what prompts us…)
She said, “Yes, I KNOW about Santa!”
“Tell me about Santa then…what about him?”
She tells me, “Santa is going to bring me a birthday present!”
Wait, back up…. “Nooo…you mean a Christmas present, right?!”
All Smiles, “oh yes, a Christmas present!”
So, then I asked what she hoped Santa was going to bring her. With her little arms held up high above her head, she said, “He is going to bring me a big present, a big, big one…huge one…a big big box.” I asked her what she hoped would be in that big big huge box and she said, “shoes.” (yay, easy.) “…and chips.” (okay great, still easy) “…and a car.” (whoa) “…and a tree” (not going to fit honey) ”…AND the sun!” (great, she went from wanting shoes and chips to expecting the whole world in one car ride!
So….Let’s see you pull that one off Santa!

...everything is alright.
